WE MISSED CHANEL’s “Inside” series, right? It was about time they released the 4th piece (of how many, we don’t know) and this time it is simply called “The Jacket”. Karl Lagerfeld makes his first appearance so far and talks about the iconic piece that Gabrielle Chanel invented and Lagerfeld himself reinvented from the 80′s until today. PARIS WAS a bit of a letdown, I must say. Loved Lanvin’s giant insects but the collection looked bland to me, Givenchy’s hair was brilliant but the garments didn’t quite match it, Slimane’s grungified Saint Laurent was sad – he won me on dropping out the “Yves” but now… it was just too much of him and too little of the fashion house. Thank god Marc Jacobs gave us a beautiful show to make for all this, and a couple more did too, as you’ll see after the jump.

PARIS FOI uma pequena desilusão, devo dizer. Adorei os insectos gigantes da Lanvin, mas a colecção pareceu-me desinteressante, o cabelo da Givenchy foi brilhante mas as peças não estiveram à sua altura, a Saint Laurent “grunge-ificada” de Slimane foi triste – dei o braço a torcer quando ele decidiu tirar o Saint, mas desta vez foi simplesmente demasiado dele e muito pouco da casa. Felizmente Marc Jacobs apresentou um desfile fabuloso para compensar tudo isto, e alguns outros também, como podem ver aqui.

Chloé

Clare Waight Keller, the designer behind Chloé, said “It’s about girls who emerge from uniform. (…) It’s essentially about girls creating independence through the way they dress.”. And through that point of view she delivered a much tougher Chloé girl that the one we’re used to, in manly cut garments paired with sheer polka dots, in an impeccable yet somewhat rebellious elegance.

Clare Waight Keller, a designer por detrás da Chloé disse que era “sobre raparigas que largam o uniforme. (…) é essencialmente sobre raparigas criarem independência através da forma como se vestem.”. É através desse ponto de vista que nos mostra uma mulher muito mais dura do que a mulher Chloé a que estamos habituados, vestida com cortes masculinos que combina com transparências às bolinhas, numa elegância impecável mas ao mesmo tempo rebelde.

Christian Dior

Christian Dior always has the most beautiful, perfect “A” silhouettes, and this season Raf Simmons made some more, although its main inspiration was the connection between his passion for art and Dior’s, using Warhol’s drawings on many of the dresses. Not my cup of tea, though.
I’m more into his classics. These.

A Christian Dior tem sempre as silhuetas em “A” mais maravilhosas e esta estação Raf Simmons traz-nos mais umas quantas, apesar da sua inspiração principal ter sido a paixão comum pelas artes, entre si e Dior, utilizando desenhos de Warhol em muitos dos vestidos.
Esses não são os meus preferidos, este são.

Elie Saab

Not my favorite E.S. collection ever, but his rigor and perfection are hardly ever going to disappoint. Some beautiful strict cut day outfits and some beautiful nightgowns “à la” Elie Saab of course, of that kind that would make any woman feel either like the true princess or the evil queen.

Não foi a minha colecção ES favorita de sempre, mas o seu rigor e perfeição dificilmente irão desapontar. Alguns coordenados de dia mais duros mas lindíssimos e claro, vestidos de noite “à la” Elie Saab, daquele tipo que faria qualquer mulher sentir-se – à escolha – a verdadeira princesa
ou a rainha má da história.

Hermés

The french classic impeccably cut in monochromes with earth and clouded-sky tones. This was Hermés at its best, showing a tough and feminine woman who doesn’t need elaborate artifices
to stand out. Impossible not to love.

O clássico francês impecavelmente cortado em lisos de tons terra e céu-nublado. Foi assim esta Hermés no seu melhor, mostrando uma mulher forte e feminina, que não precisa de artifícios  elaborados para se impor. Impossível não gostar.

Louis Vuitton

A rich woman leaves or enters a hotel room in a hurry. Her clothes are refined, her looks lascivious. You can’t really tell if she’s a well payed escort or a bourgeoise with a tale to tell. Jacobs always has his own story to tell, and this one is certainly one for grown-ups. Silks, satins, lace, cashmere and (exquisite) sequined tweeds make up her just-off-bed wardrobe, surrounding us in mystery and lust,
a mix hard to resist.

Uma mulher abastada entra ou sai de um quarto de hotel à pressa. Roupa refinada, ar lascivo.
Não conseguimos discernir se é uma acompanhante de luxo ou uma burguesa com algo a esconder. Jacobs tem sempre uma história para contar e esta é seguramente para maiores de dezoito.
Sedas, cetins, rendas, caxemiras e tweeds salpicados de lantejoulas lindos de morrer compõem
o guarda-roupa desta mulher acabada de sair da cama e que nos envolve em luxúria e mistério,
uma combinação a que é difícil resistir.

HERE’S THE BEST of Paris Fashion Week street style (according to myself). It looks like many of these show goers decided to fight the cold with bold and happy colours. Others went for the classics blacks and whites, especially now that those two have risen to stardom. AQUI ESTÁ o melhor do street style da Paris Fashion Week (na minha perspectiva). Parece que alguns destes “show-goers” decidiram fazer frente ao frio com muita cor, outros optaram pelos clássicos pretos e brancos, ainda mais numa estação em que este par foi elevado ao estrelato. AFTER A BRIEF hiatus we’re back on track! It’s time to explore the most amazing creations from Milan Fashion Week, and amazing they were. Some disappointments with classics such as Versace or Marni but overall an exciting overflow or creativity. Enjoy!

DEPOIS DE UM BREVE hiato, estamos de volta! Está na altura de explorarmos as criações mais inspiradoras da Milan Fashion Week, e foram muitas, apesar de algumas desilusões de clássicos como Versace ou Marni. Espreitem e digam de vossa justiça.

Blumarine

It wasn’t exactly the most cohesive collection, it had its weird moments of “eightyness” and pink is hardly my color BUT it did scream feminine, bold and comfortable in many, many garments, and that’s pretty much like calling my name. The shoes were beautiful and, in the end, I’d gladly applaud Miss Molinari. (Although I’d rather see her with a midi-skirt instead of that over-the-knee when she got out to thank the audience. Just sayin’. And I bet Coco Chanel would agree.)

Não foi propriamente a colecção mais coesa de sempre, teve os seus momentos estranhos de “anos 80″, e cor-de-rosa está longe de ser a minha cor, MAS algumas peças gritavam feminilidade, personalidade e conforto, e isso é quase tão eficiente como chamar o meu nome. Os sapatos também eram lindos de morrer e, no fim, aplaudiria de bom grado a Sra. Molinari. (Apesar de ter gostado de a ver com uma saia midi em vez daquela acima do joelho que trouxe ao aplauso final.
E aposto que a Coco Chanel iria concordar comigo.)

Dolce & Gabbana

I bet this was one of the most awaited shows of the week. It all started with the Spring of 2012 collection when Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana did something so fresh and yet so faithful to the brand’s DNA that the whole (fashion) world was amazed. Vegetable and fruits and beads along with beautifully designed flowing dresses, up to the woman of today and deep rooted in the sicilian culture. Amazing work. Personally, until then I saw Dolce&Gabbana as lost in time, with its outdated 90′s cuts and fabrics. After that, devoted to the cause.
Now, for the fourth time in a row, they’ve created a whole new collection inspired by those incredible southern roots (starting with the Byzantine tiles of Sicily’s Cathedral of Monreale) and through seventy-seven coordinates we’ve witnessed an incredible voyage from bizantine heritage to everyday grey tweeds, then to its classical black and white laces, embroideries and satins, then to an imperial red period and forth again to ostentation. These guys are on back on track.

Este foi seguramente um dos desfiles mais aguardados da semana. Eu diria mesmo que udo começou na Primavera de 2012, quando Domenico Dolce e Steffano Gabbana desenharam uma colecção tão fresca e simultaneamente tão fiel ao DNA da marca que o mundo inteiro (da moda) ficou maravilhado. Vegetais e frutos e pedras coloridas aplicados em vestidos fluidos impecavelmente desenhados, à altura da mulher de hoje e profundamente enraizados na cultura siciliana. Trabalho extraordinário. Pessoalmente, até aí via a Dolce&Gabbana como uma marca perdida no tempo, com os seus cortes datados dos anos 90 e os tecidos deslocados da época actual. Depois dessa colecção, sou devota à ca(u)sa.
Agora, pela quarta vez consecutiva, esta dupla de criadores apresentou uma colecção inteira inspirada por essas raízes do sul (partindo dos mosaicos da Catedral de Monreale, na Sicília), em que, através de setenta e sete coordenados, mergulhamos numa viagem fantástica pela herança bizantina como pelos tweeds cinzentos do dia-a-dia de trabalho, passando pelos seus pretos e brancos clássicos de rendas, bordados e cetins, e voltando novamente a um periodo de vermelhos imperiais e ostentação. Esta dupla está mesmo de volta à ribalta.

DSquared²

I love how they don’t take things too seriously. I feel like that’s the right way, you know? Like whenever I dress up I immediately feel the urge to dress down with a studded jacket instead of a trench or sneakers instead of high heels. DSquared² showed us this super cool dandy-girl that makes me want to wear everything she’s wearing and most of all, makes me smile.

Adoro o facto deste dois não levarem nada demasiado a sério. Pessoalmente, é como sinto que deve ser feito. Como quando me visto mais “a sério” e imediatamente sinto a necessidade de aligeirar com um blusão de pele e tachas em vez de vestir o trench, ou calçar uns ténis em vez de uns saltos altos. A DSquared² mostrou-nos esta dandy-girl super cool que me faz querer usar tudo o que veste e, sobretudo, faz-me sorrir.

Emilio Pucci

Loved. Those. Boots.
Did I tell you I loved the boots?
Really, I need this for next winter. Sexier and warmer than thighs, can you think of anything better
to wear with short dresses and mini-skirts during these cooold winter days?
I’m ready to embrace the 70′s.

Amei. As. Botas.
Já vos disse que adorei as botas?
A sério, preciso disto no próximo inverno. Mais quentes e mais sexy que collants,
conseguem pensar em alguma coisa melhor para usar com vestidos curtos e mini-saias
naqueles dias de inverno bem frios? Estou pronta para abraçar os 70′s.

Gianfranco Ferré

When I saw the first images from this collection I got confused. Never having dedicated myself to the learning of Gianfranco Ferré (neither the house nor the man) I thought “Does this have anything to do with Haider Ackermann and I don’t have a clue?”. Apparently it doesn’t, but it does have a complex line of events behind, like the fact that Mr. Ferré left us in 2007 while Mr. Ackermann conquered his golden place in history, very much inspired by the latter, and at the same time Federico Piaggi and Stefano Citron struggled to find a new way for the brand. That said, although the essence might be GF, the vision is clearly Ackermann. Rumors appart, I liked it.

Quando vi as primeiras imagens desta colecção fiquei baralhada. Nunca me dediquei muito a estudar a Gianfranco Ferré (nem a casa nem o seu fundador) e pensei “Será que isto tem alguma coisa a ver com o Haider Ackermann e eu não sei?” Aparentemente não tem, mas teve uma infeliz sequência de eventos, como o facto de o próprio Sr. Ferré nos ter deixado em 2007 e do Sr. Ackermann ter sido consideravelmente influenciado por aquele e ter conquistado um lugar de ouro na indústria da moda. Enquanto isto, Federico Piaggi e Stefano Citron lutavam para dar um novo rumo à casa Ferré. Ora, a essência será Ferré, mas a visão é claramente a de Ackermann. Rumores à parte, gostei.

Prada

The rocking 50′s put their “film noir” leather and furs on, drink a bit of 90′s grunge and there you have one of the coolest collections on the catwalk this season. As Miuccia Prada herself put it it was “a mix of rich and poor”. With these contradictory women she conquered pretty much everyone, myself included.

Os rockeiros 50′s vestem peles e pêlos dignos do “film noir”, bebem um golo de grunge dos 90′s e de repente temos uma das colecções mais “cool” da estação. Como a própria Miuccia Prada disse, foi “uma mistura de rico e de pobre”. E foi com estas mulheres contraditórias que conquistou praticamente todos, eu incluída.

Ainda mais fascinantes quando os tempos evoluem, a aldeia global é o agora e esta identidade de peso é temperada pela novidade. Depois do melhor Street Style de Nova Iorque e Londres, que tal espreitarmos as ruas da Milan Fashion Week?

LONDON CATWALKS have a very special identity to them, which is the mix of identities. Like the city it happens in, London Fashion Week gathers influences from all over the world in a rich and inspiring set of creations that usually amazes me more than any other. This year was no exception, here are some of my favorites.

AS PASSERELLES de Londres têm uma identidade muito especial: a mistura de identidades. Como a cidade em que acontece. a London Fashion Week reúne influências de todo o mundo num conjunto de criações ricas e inspiradoras que tende a fascinar-me quase sempre mais do que qualquer outra. este ano não foi excepção, estas são algumas das minhas favoritas.

Burberry Prorsum

A tad boring, I’d say, for a brand that had just injected the catwalks with shimmering pastels and playful leather trenches, despite it’s inspiration being Christine Keeler, a showgirl who got involved with English politicians and Russian spies almost bringing down the British government in the early sixties. “Trench Kisses” sounded good, and actually had some great pieces like everything in that Cara Delevigne look (except for the shoes), but I missed more than just the beige and black and animal prints. Well, it had to get back from that eccentricity at some point, and from that point of view, it was probably a good track.

Um bocado aborrecida, para uma marca que tinha acabado de injectar nas passerelles os seus clássicos em pastéis metalizados e peles coloridas, apesar de a inspiração para esta colecção ter sido Christine Keeler, uma stripper que se envolveu com políticos ingleses e espiões russos nos anos sessenta, e quase levou abaixo o governo britânico. “Trench Kisses” soava bem, e até teve umas peças bem interessantes – como o look completo da Cara Delevigne (excepto sapatos) – mas senti falta de algo mais para além do beige, do preto e dos prints animais. A verdade é que em algum ponto teriam de regredir naquela loucura toda, e por esse prisma, talvez Christopher Bailey tenha encontrado uma boa solução.

Tom Ford

Controversy was launched the minute the first look stepped on the runway. Ford had lost his mind, mingling every aesthetic reference he could remember, from comics to tribal motives, or was it genious, a way to gather attention when the empire is growing and mass consumers a target? It still goes on. I was inclined for the first opinion, when a friend showed me the show, a couple of minutes after it entered Style.com, but after a while, I have to tell you, that show had some of the greatest pieces I’ve seen this season. I hated the styling. For me, it was bad taste all over. But geeez, did you take a look at those coats? Those skirts? Those boots?

A discussão começou no momento em que o primeiro look entrou na passerelle. Tom Ford teria perdido o juizo, misturando todas as referências gráficas de que se lembrou, de banda desenhada a motivos tribais, ou era um passo genial, uma forma de chamar a atenção de um público cada vez mais massificado, quando o império está em franco crescimento? A discussão continua. Eu estava mais do lado dos que o davam como louco, confesso, mas passado algum tempo, e depois de ver com calma a colecção, tenho que dar o braço a torcer: estão aqui algumas das peças mais fabulosas que vi esta estação. Odiei o styling, mas já olharam bem para estes casacos? As saias? As botas?

House of Holland

“Rave Nana” he called it, based on the idea of a granddaughter that borrows her grandmothers clothes or, the other way around. Henry Holland always gives us this special freshness and youth touch, in pieces one could almost find next door, except… you don’t. Because he gives them a crazy, unique touch in order to make them catwalk worthy and that, to me, is sooo appealing.
Comfort, and quirkiness. Oh, and Martinis.

“Rave Nana” foi o nome que Henry Holland deu à colecção, baseado na ideia de uma neta que assalta o guarda roupa da avó, ou talvez o contrário. O que interessa é que nas suas colecções existe sempre um toque de juventude e irreverência que cativa, associado a uma normalidade que quase dá a impressão de que podemos encontrar uma peça semelhante na porta ao lado… só que não conseguimos. Porque ele fá-las merecedoras de uma passerelle, ao mesmo tempo que são “normais”. Conforto, frescura e humor. Ah, e Martinis.

Mathew Williamson

More “squared” than ever, Williamson presented a much less flowing collection than what we’re used to but surprisingly still super feminine and totally proving he can also go the other way and even pair the two ways: chiffon and structured sweaters for instance, or a tailored wool dress with a pleated silk end. Much cleaner, loved.

Mais “quadrado” do que nunca, Williamson apresentou uma colecção muito menos fluida do que nos tem habituado mas surpreendentemente feminina e a prova provada de que também consegue ir por esse caminho, ou ainda jogar muito bem com os dois: chiffon e uma camisola estrutura, por exemplo, ou um vestido clássico de lã com uma bainha de seda plissada. Muito mais “limpo”, o mesmo espírito. Gostei.

Paul Smith

This might just be my favorite color palette from the season. Incredible work in pairing simplicity of the cuts with the density and richness of colours. Would love to have every single piece and wouldn’t even try to be creative: I’d wear them in this exact way, from head to toes.

Esta é provavelmente a minha paleta de cores favorita desta estação. Incrível trabalho de conjugação de cortes simples com a densidade e riqueza das cores. Adorava ter estas peças todas e nem ia tentar ser criativa: usava-as assim, tal e qual, da cabeça aos pés.

Jonathan Saunders

David Lynch, the 50′s, leather. Vixen meets blonde bombshell and give a very nice output.
David Lynch, os anos 50, pele. Vixen misturada com Bombshell. Belíssimo resultado.

Roksanda Ilincic

“Because I studied architecture, I always start with a structural feel,” she said. “But this season I wanted something unexpected for winter, and that is where the pink came in.” Pink and some more vintage looking hues, like grape and swimming pool green. The textures and cuts went from patent leather and furs to mohair and loose, home-looking shapes. It worked for me.

“Porque estudei arquitectura, começo sempre com uma ideia de estrutura.” disse Ilincic. “Mas nesta estação queria algo inesperado para o inverno, e foi aí que entrou o cor-de-rosa”. Rosa e mais uns quantos tons de aura vintage, como uva e verde piscina. As texturas e cortes vão da pele envernizada e pêlo ao mohair e às formas desestruturadas com um ar “caseiro”. Funcionou lindamente para mim.

DEPOIS DE UM fim-de-semana comprido e muito bom, em correria constante cidade fora para conseguir ver alguns dos desfiles (não tantos como gostaria) e cumprir todos os outros afazeres, a nossa Moda Lisboa terminou. Oooooh…! Pois é, mas apesar de estar mortinha por vos falar sobre isso (incluindo sobre o meu favorito surpreendente), por aqui temos um calendário a cumprir, lembram-se? Todos os dias partilho a minha edição do melhor do melhor das quatro grandes fashion weeks, e depois do melhor do Street Style e das Colecções de Nova Iorque, é tempo de fazermos uma viagem no tempo a Londres. Falamos no fim, mas ou muito me engano ou esta é a “leva” de street stylers com mais pinta. Ora espreitem. ;)

Rebecca Minkoff

Minkoff was supposededly inspired by Neil Armstrong’s words “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon” although it wasn’t very clear how she translated that into this collection, except from the “SPACE” shirt. Despite that, great use of winter colours, plenty of comfy cuts and textures. I would gladly jump into many of them right away and that’s exactly what “ready-to-wear” means, right?

Minkoff ter-se-á supostamente inspirado nas palavras de Neil Armstrong “Não me digam que o céu é o limite quando há pegadas na lua” apesar de não ser muito clara a sua transposição para a colecção apresentada, excepto numa t-shirt com a palavra “SPACE”. Espaço à parte, excelente uso de cores invernais, muitas formas e texturas hiper-confortáveis. Eu saltava já para dentro de algumas delas, e é esse o significado de “ready-do-wear”, certo?

WHILE WE immerse ourselves in our own Lisbon Fashion Week (of wich I’ll be talking about soon) during the next few days I’m going to share the best of the big ones – New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks – both in terms of the collections presented and the street stylers roaming around the events. We start off with the freezing streets of New York Fashion Week, let the show begin!
